Inteligencia emocional y estrés laboral entre los empleados del GAD Municipal del cantón Chordeleg

Abstract

The present research aims to analyze the relationship between the levels of emotional intelligence (IE) and work stress (WS) among employees of the GAD Municipal of the canton Chordeleg, both globally and through a comparative analysis of specific variables. To evaluate both constructs we used the Wood and Tolley Emotional Intelligence Test (2007) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory Questionnaire (1986). The sample consisted of 50 employees (29 men and 21 women) aged between 20 and 65 years. The obtained results indicated that the EI in the participants showed an index of normality. In relation to work stress, there were no high scores found. Likewise, to the correlation between EI and WS in a global way there was no correlation significance found. None the less, the analysis of specific variables found significance between Depersonalization and Self-Regulation negative correlated, in addition, a significant negative correlation was found between Depersonalization and Self-Awareness variables. Finally, we found a marked correlation between Depersonalization and Social Skills variables. Although these results are partial, they corroborate previous studies in favor of the hypothesis that supports a negative correlation between Emotional Intelligence and Work Stress, a factor of invaluable application both in the selection of new staff and the application of developmental programs in emotional intelligence among employees for individual and organizational well-being.
