Rehabilitación de edificios públicos patrimoniales: proyecto de restauración del antiguo edificio de bomberos de Girón

Abstract

The construction of the old fire station building of Girón started in 1956. From that time on the structure carried a social function in the town, however, nowadays it sits empty with no other function than serving as a storage unit. This undergrad project is a blueprint of the complete restoration of the building, which is being executed thanks to the agreement between the University of Cuenca and the Autonomous Decentralized Government of Girón.

Previous to the proposals the bases and concepts for restoration are reviewed, studying, at the same time; the history and architectural heritage of Girón, specifically that of the building. Case studies similar to this project will be analyzed in order to estimate approximate proposals, a damage record will be done as well as the development of a historic, aesthetic, constructive and technical diagnosis of the building, in order to assign a value to the project.

This restoration blueprint is oriented towards recovering the social function the building always had and salvage the original architectonic, aesthetic and constructive values of the structure and at the same time, through the previous analysis determine what elements need to be replaced or eliminated in order to guarantee the safety and conservation of the building without altering the typology or original form of the structure.
