Abstract

Background: According to WHO data, 12% of young women aged 14 to 15 years have ever had sex. Statistics from the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion show that the rate of adolescent pregnancy among 15- to 19-year-olds grew by about 18%. These figures place our country leading the list of Andean countries with the highest number of pregnancies in this stage of life Course objective: To identify the frequency of paternity and maternity, characteristics of the beginning of sexual relations in adolescents enrolled active in Canton Gualaceo in the academic year 2016-17 Methodology: A structured survey validated by the CERCA project was applied. A qualitative-quantitative descriptive study was carried out, with 1,800 adolescents between 12 and 19 years old. For data processing, SPSS version 19 was used, with simple tables and descriptive statistics. Results: The average age was 14.09 years, 52.6% of the female sex did not work in the majority, mainly Catholics.
