Abstract
The present work has as objective to analyze the possibility of implementing a system of electric power generation using residual biomass from the forest of pines of the University of Cuenca’s Irquis farm. The methodology used to estimate the amount of residual biomass in the forest is initially shown. Laboratory tests are realized to determine the heating power of the biomass. This determines that the best method for energy use is the Rankine Cycle. From the results, the electrical potential of the project is estimated; considering as scenarios a plant of 0.6 MW or 1 MW, if the existing potential is dispatched in 5 or 3 years, respectively. The environmental and social impact that the project would generate is considered and an improvement plan is proposed. Finally, a cost analysis is carried out and the conclusions and recommendations of the project are established.
Resumen
El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar la posibilidad de implementar un sistema de generación de energía eléctrica mediante el uso de biomasa residual forestal del bosque de pinos de la granja Irquis de la Universidad de Cuenca. En primer lugar, se describe la metodología empleada para la estimación de la cantidad de biomasa residual existente en el bosque. También se realizan pruebas de laboratorio para determinar el poder calorífico de la biomasa. Se determina que el mejor método para el aprovechamiento energético es el Ciclo Rankine. A partir de los resultados se estima el potencial eléctrico del proyecto; planteando como escenarios una planta de 0.6 MW o 1 MW, si el potencial actual existente es despachado en 5 o 3 años, respectivamente. Además, se considera el impacto ambiental y social que el proyecto generaría y se plantea un plan de mejora. Finalmente se realiza el análisis de costos; además, se establecen las conclusiones y recomendaciones del proyecto.
