Tabaquismo, condiciones sociales, económicas y culturales y políticas de la parroquia Machángara de la ciudad de Cuenca 2002-2003

Abstract

Part of the project: Tobacco, poverty and disease in the city of Cuenca, conducted by the University of Cuenca in some parishes with several groups of students. In this case the Machángara parish; quantitative study, descriptive epidemiology of its inhabitants; as shown in study 155 randomly selected people. In order to relate smoking and social, economic and cultural conditions in the urban population of the city of Cuenca, with klas variables: age, gender, marital status, religion and occupation. Surveys, which were tabulated and processed in EPI-INFO-EXCEL programs were applied. The results obtained indicate that the majority is non-smoking, there is a growing number of smokers especially at young ages, which belong to a social conglomerate without existing low and medium big difference between the number of smokers by gender. People have many beliefs regarding the use of snuff, it indicated that the Cuenca society in constant modernization, still retains certain cures, witchcraft, horror, evil eye, bad air, etc. It is hoped that the findings will be of assistance to doctors, researchers and "people" in general, to serve as basis for further research
