Prevalencia de anemia en pacientes embarazadas que acudieron al Hospital Luis F. Martínez en el año 2019

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Anemia is one of the most frequent diseases during pregnancy being considered a public health problem worldwide, it is present in 52% of pregnant women in underdeveloped countries and 23% of pregnant women in developed countries, it represents a high risk of complications, during gestation and during delivery in the mother, in the fetus and in the newborn. OBJETIVE: To determine the prevalence of anemia in pregnant patients who attended the Luis F. Martínez Hospital in 2019. METHODOLOGY: A descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out. The information was collected from the database of pregnant patients. For the tabulation, the IMB SPSS Statics software was used to analyze and clarify the relationships between variables, identify trends and represent them by means of graphs and tables. RESULTS: The prevalence of anemia occurred between the ages 19-23 years (38.3%), preferably in the third trimester of gestation (57.45%), belonging to the urban area (65%), with primary school (38.3%) being the highest degree of schooling. CONCLUSION Mild to moderate anemia was the most frequent in pregnant women from urban areas, aged 19 to 23 years, mainly during the third trimester of gestation, being primary school the highest level of schooling.
