Mitos y creencias relacionados al procedimiento del papanicolaou en mujeres que iniciaron su vida sexual y acuden al Centro de Salud El Valle, febrero – julio 2016

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The myths and beliefs that are transmitted from generation to generation, often become a barrier to the implementation of certain actions for the health and welfare of women; in this study it has focused on those who can interfere Pap due to in Ecuador the incidence of cervical cancer occupies an important place. OBJECTIVE: Identify myths and beliefs related to the procedure of Pap in women who began their sexual life and go to the Health Center "El Valle", February-July 2016. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This research was qualitative type, the same that involved 10 women who go to the Health Center "El Valle", the technique used was semi-structured verbal interview that determined the myths or beliefs related to the Pap test, we also handle a voice recorder, which allowed us to demonstrate responses in the study. For data analysis the ATLAS-TI seven program was used. RESULTS: There are several limitations so that the users do not attend regularly to do the Pap test, among these was obtained: "I am ashamed" "I'm scared", "there are many people in the room," " I would prefer a female doctor not a male doctor", "no time", "it is painful", among others. CONCLUSIONS: It was found that there are still myths and beliefs by women, in addition to the refusal to a Pap test done based on personal experiences and comments that act as constraints facing the realization of the Pap test
