Abstract

BACKGROUND: According to the WHO, malnutrition refers to the lack, excess and imbalance of caloric and nutrient intake, with a high incidence worldwide and Ecuador is not exempt, poverty, misinformation, poor nutrition are factors that predominate in This problem seriously affects the physical and mental development of the child. OBJECTIVE: To establish the nutritional status of children under 2 years of age who attend the FICSH Sucúa Health Center, January - March 2022. METHODS: Quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional cohort research. The universe was made up of 1757 infants. According to Pita Fernández's formula, the sample consisted of 316 children. The survey carried out by the authors was used as an instrument, Cronbach's alpha was applied, the study yielded a result of 0.714. The data was tabulated using the SPSS version 21 system, Word and Excel, and is shown in the tables of frequencies and percentages. RESULTS: The study population included 316 children under 2 years of age, the sociodemographic variables were: age 7-12 months, male gender, Shuar ethnic group, rural residence. The nutritional status according to the WHO, 59 8% are underweight, 39.6% have severe short stature, with respect to eating habits 68.4% provided exclusive breastfeeding up to 6 months, 41.8% carbohydrates, 37% vegetables, and 60.8%. maintained a high consumption of sweets. CONCLUSION: At the end of the investigation, the variables were statistically significant: level of education, occupation, ethnicity, place of residence, eating habits.
