Percepción en madres de niños menores de 2 años sobre cobertura de estrategia nacional de inmunización, Centro de Salud “Victoria del Portete”, Cuenca 2018.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The National Immunization Strategy is important because it helps to prevent diseases by reducing morbidity and mortality in the pediatric population; There are several factors that prevent optimal compliance with the strategy, including the perception that mothers have about vaccines, influencing the scope of coverage. OBJECTIVE: Describe the perception in mothers of children under 2 years of age about coverage of the National Immunization Strategy, "Victoria del Portete" Health Center, Cuenca 2018. METHODOLOGY: The research is mixed, the cross-sectional descriptive study, the universe composed of 55 mothers, the quantitative technique was the survey and the qualitative technique was the focal group for which non-probabilistic sampling was used for convenience. The information was processed in SPSS version 18 to elaborate tables with frequencies and percentages; the ATLAS Ti to process qualitative variables, identifying categories of analysis and memos, applying the hermeneutics for interpretation. RESULTS: The research determined that the perception of mothers is linked to the level of knowledge, schooling and residency, finding: 52.7% ignore the diseases they prevent, 58.2% have complete primary education, 87.3% belong to rural areas; 65.5% consider vaccines as good for health, the level of satisfaction is high with 76.4%. CONCLUSIONS: Mothers' perceptions of the National Immunization Strategy are good despite their low level of knowledge and difficult access to the health center, which are determining factors for low coverage.
