Evaluación del grado de sobrecarga en cuidadores de personas con discapacidad que asisten a la Unidad de Equitación y Remonta Santa Ana de los Cuatro Ríos, Cuenca 2020

BACKGROUND: The Assessing Caregiver Burden Syndrome has turned out to be a poorly understood concept within the issues associated with disability, however, it has both physical and emotional consequences that influence the caregiver's quality of life. Therefore, it is essential to recognize the presence of this syndrome since future repercussions associated with it could be avoided and in this way an optimal care environment can be enjoyed. OBJECTIVE: Determine the degree of overload in caregivers of people with disabilities who attend to Equitation Unit “Santa Ana de los Cuatro Ríos”, Cuenca 2020. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The research was qualitative and descriptive. the degree of overload was assessed using Zarit scale for caregivers of people with disabilities who attend to Equitation Unit "Santa Ana de los Cuatro Rios ". A database was created and the relationship of the variables raised with the statistical program IBM SPSS 25 was determined and the CHI SQUARE test was used to determine the statistical significance RESULTS: 52 caregivers were evaluated, the mean age was 43.4 years, most of them women 73.1%, 59.6% employees, living in urban areas 65.4%, mothers 48.1%, who have spent more than 24 months caring for their family member 65.4%, who used an average of 11 hours per day for this activity, the people in their care mostly had a severe disability 48.1%, of a physical type 51.9 %. By applying the Zarit test, it was determined that the light overload 36.5% was the predominant one. A relationship was obtained between the variables: degree of disability and degree of overload, with a statistical significance p = 0.003. CONCLUTIONS: Applying the Zarit Test, it was determined that 65,3% of the population had overload, which was associated with the degree of disability of the person in charge.
