Abstract

BACKGROUND: Traditional medicine constitutes a very important cultural value in our country; represents the identity of the peoples; a sample of this is what is reflected in the attention of midwives to women during pregnancy and postpartum; In spite of this, for the health sector the fundamental challenge is to incorporate the intercultural approach in the Health Care and Management Model

OBJECTIVE: To describe the postpartum ancestral treatment "bath of five" in the communities of San Joaquin, El Valle, Cumbe, 2017.

METHODOLOGY: A qualitative study was conducted; The technique used for the data collection was the semi-structured interview that was applied to seventeen midwives from San Joaquin, El Valle and Cumbe. Which was structured based on the different categories that were analyzed in the study; so that later they are transcribed to the Atlas.ti program for the corresponding coding, categorization, structuring that facilitated the qualitative analysis of the data.

RESULTS: The information obtained allowed to know the socioeconomic conditions of the midwives of the study sector, their customs and knowledge. In relation to the practice of the Bath of Five, the information collected was transcribed observing a relationship between the variables analyzed in the interview, finding that this activity is carried out by adults and that their knowledge has been transmitted from parents to children from generation to generation; being the use of medicinal plants through infusions and subsequent encaderamiento with chicken infusion, the most relevant aspects of this treatment, applying beliefs and traditions both in the use of medicinal plants and in techniques for the recovery of parturients
