Abstract
Violence against children and adolescents is a global problem that violates their rights and affects their overall development. In the canton of Sígsig, Ecuador, this phenomenon is evident in the cases handled by the Cantonal Board for the Protection of Rights during the period 2021–2024. The objective of the research is to analyze the sociodemographic profile of children, adolescents, and their families, as well as the types of violence that affect this population. A quantitative approach is adopted, with a non-experimental design and a cross- sectional and time series analytical scope. A total of 142 files were analyzed, corresponding to 224 children and adolescents who were victims of violence and 250 individuals who were reported. Data collection was carried out through quantitative content analysis and information processing with SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The findings indicate that violence mainly affects females between the ages of 9 and 14. Neglect is the most frequent type of violence and occurs mainly in the family environment. Statistically significant associations were also identified between the types of violence, the gender of the victim, the type of family, and the gender of the persons reported, as well as the persistence of violence during the study period.
Resumen
La violencia contra niños, niñas y adolescentes es una problemática a nivel mundial que vulnera sus derechos y afecta su desarrollo integral. En el cantón Sígsig, Ecuador, este fenómeno se evidencia en los casos atendidos por la Junta Cantonal de Protección de Derechos durante el periodo 2021–2024. La investigación tiene como objetivo analizar el perfil sociodemográfico de los niños, niñas y adolescentes y de sus familias, así como las tipologías de violencia que afectan a esta población. Se adopta un enfoque cuantitativo, con un diseño no experimental y un alcance analítico de tipo transversal y de series temporales. Se analizaron 142 expedientes, correspondientes a 224 niños, niñas y adolescentes víctimas de violencia y 250 personas denunciadas. La recolección de datos se realizó mediante el análisis de contenido cuantitativo y el procesamiento de la información con SPSS y Microsoft Excel. Los hallazgos indican que la violencia afecta mayoritariamente al género femenino de entre 9 y 14 años. La negligencia en el cuidado constituye la tipología más frecuente y ocurre principalmente en el entorno familiar. Asimismo, se identificaron asociaciones estadísticamente significativas entre las tipologías de violencia, el género de la víctima, el tipo de familia y el género de las personas denunciadas, así como la persistencia de la violencia durante el periodo de estudio.
