Abstract

High blood pressure mainly affects the small vessels, these changes can be observed in the retina by ophthalmoscopy fundus examination, showing the time evolution of the pressure and the degree of activity, so ophthalmoscopy It has great importance for the diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of this disease. In this environment, the fundus examination as a method of control in hypertension is not a common practice. So we consider appropriate to conduct a study to confirm its importance. The study was conducted on 45 teachers of the University of Cuenca, all diagnosed with hypertension. After analyzing the data obtained it was concluded that the relationship between hypertension and hypertensive retinopathy is clear, also it found that the ophthalmoscopic examination allows us to obtain complete and specific data on disease progression and treatment efficacy.
