Prevalencia de ansiedad y factores asociados en estudiantes de la Escuela Sagrado Corazón. Cuenca, 2017

Abstract

Background Anxiety disorders of children constitute a health problem, since there is a significant prevalence ranging from 2.6 to 41.2% (1).

General Objective Determine the prevalence of anxiety and its associated factors in students of the "Sagrado Corazón" school Cuenca. 2017.

Methodology Cross-sectional study, which included 328 children from fifth to tenth grade of the "Sagrado Corazón" school; To determine anxiety, the Spence Scale, family functionality with the family APGAR, self-esteem with the Rosenberg scale, attention with the Scale D2 and the rest of the variables were used with the questionnaire prepared by the authors. The relationship of factors associated with anxiety was determined, using the prevalence ratio (PR) with an accuracy of 95% confidence interval (CI), with a statistical significance verified by X2 with its value (p) <0, 05.

Result The prevalence of anxiety in this study was 40.5%. The average age was 10.8 years between 8 to 14 years. The first stage of adolescence represented 75%. The female sex was the most frequent with 66.2%. A statistically significant association was determined with: female sex, belonging to a dysfunctional family and having low self-esteem, with: RP> 1; IC (95%)> 1; Value (p) <0.05.

Conclusions Students with anxiety had a risk factor belonging to the female sex, being from a dysfunctional family and having low self-esteem, as a protective factor the instruction was found.
