Estudio para la ampliación y mejoramiento del sistema de agua potable de la Comunidad de Gutún de la Parroquia san Sebastián de Sígsig Del Cantón Sígsig Provincia del Azuay

Abstract

A Drinking Water System aims to provide the water quality for human consumption by means of a treatment of a natural source. The drinking water supply has reached a significant importance for the government institutions in Ecuador during the last decade. In Sígsig, province of Azuay, the supply of drinking water to the rural areas is today the highest priority, therefore, this thesis presents a study to provide a drinking water system to the community of Gutun. The study was conducted by means of field and office works. In the field works, an evaluation of the current system was performed, analyzing the infrastructure, the source characteristics and the socioeconomic aspects of the community. Different visits for visual inspections, in-situ experiments and sampling were performed, and some laboratory analysis were also conducted with the samples. The office works were performed using the field work information. The community was assessed and, in a first stage, the design guidelines for the drinking water system were determined. Different scenarios of technical solutions were assessed and a non-conventional system was chosen for the final solution. The final design was finally elaborated for the drinking water system of Gutun based on the analysis of current technologies and their cost of construction, operation and maintenance.
