Tumor fibroso solitario. Reporte de un caso enigmático

Abstract

Background: Fibrous solitary tumor is a rare form of tumor; it comes from the mesenchymal tissue, and has the capacity to invade different anatomic places, like skin, nervous system, soft tissue, liver, lungs, kidneys and thyroid. The symptoms vary depending on the place and size of the tumor. Due to its low frequency and its similarities with other tumors, its diagnosis and treatment becomes hard. Objectives: Identify and recognize the most relevant clinic characteristics from a case of a solitary fibrous tumor reported on the Cancer Institute SOLCA, located in Cuenca. Acknowledge the diagnostic tools used to diagnose this tumor, along with selecting the right treatment according to the patient. Methods: A data recollection will be done from the database of SOLCA about the medical record, diagnostic methods, treatment and procedures, in order to have extra information a new interview will be done with the patient. With all this information a case report will be written and analyzed according to the objectives of this case report. Expected results: It is expected that after the report and the analysis of this case it becomes a reference for the health workers, and to recognize the characteristics, diagnostic algorithm, and treatment. Encourage the scientific community to make further investigations in this field.
