Características epidemiológicas de los pacientes que viven con VIH/SIDA atendidos en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga - IESS, período 2018.

Abstract

Background: Ecuador has an HIV / AIDS epidemic with a higher incidence in vulnerable populations, prevalence rate was 0.3 between 15 and 49 years, below the Latin American average registered at 0.5.

General objective: Determine the epidemiological characteristics in patients diagnosed with HIV / AIDS treated at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital - IESS, period 2018.

Methodology: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out. Universe was made of all the medical records of patients with HIV / AIDS treated at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital - IESS, 2018 period.

Results: 48.4% were between 18 and 39 years old, mixed race ethnicity (98.7%), single (52.2%), 40.3% finished high school, 11.3% are teachers, and 11.3% are workers. 39% come from the Province of Azuay, 49.7% reside in Azuay, 52.8%, live in rural areas. In 99.7%, the route of transmission was sexual, the CD4 T lymphocyte count is greater than 200 in 71.4%, 69.8%, they are kept under observation for 1 to 10 years. 100% presented positive serology, 96.2% viral load and 93.7% CD4 count. In 6.6% tuberculosis was evident. 3.1% died, 50% due to a cardiorespiratory arrest related to AIDS.

Conclusions: the majority are men, mixed race ethnicity, between 18 and 39 years old, single, secondary education, teachers and workers, the diagnosis was made with serological tests, they also have records of viral load and CD4 count. Pulmonary tuberculosis is the most common opportunistic disease. Most of these in relation to final stages of AIDS has low frequency of mortality.
