Abstract
The investigation considered the total number of animals submitted to the diagnosis of rabies at the Leopoldo Izquieta Pérez Institute in the city of Cuenca between the years 1986-1990. Of a total of 1,422 registered animals, 721 were positive for rabies (50%), with dogs being the most frequent, followed in order by cats, cattle, pigs, sheep, and monkeys. It is recommended to periodically keep statistical records on the frequency of this problem as a contribution to public and animal health.
Resumen
La investigación consideró el total de animales sometidos al diagnóstico de rabia en el Instituto Leopoldo Izquieta Pérez de la ciudad de Cuenca entre los años 1986-1990. De un total de 1422 animales registrados 721 resultaron positivos para rabia (50%) siendo más frecuente los perros siguiéndole en orden los gatos, bovinos, cerdos, ovejas y monos. Se recomienda llevar periódicamente registros estadísticos sobre la frecuencia de este problema como contribución para la salud pública y animal.
