Abstract
This project investigates the phenomenon of social and spatial segregation in the area of housing, as well as its influence on the configuration of the territory, identifying its physical expressions manifested in the urban environment.
The importance of exploring segregation lies in its impact on social and territorial dynamics, where both individuals and groups can be grouped and distanced or excluded from others due to a variety of reasons, including economic, cultural, racial, place of origin differences or, as in this case, according to the quality of habitability of housing.
The study employs a methodological process based on the analysis of patterns of social and spatial segregation, which helps to identify the variables surrounding housing, its inhabitants and segregation, which are subsequently examined spatially and quantitatively. And through this analysis, primary information is obtained that will determine in a first approach the presence, increase or absence of segregation.
The analysis revealed that the studied territory shows an emerging social segregation, where closed housing complexes are emerging and proliferating in areas of the study area, increasing physical barriers and preventing social contact, thus segregating the inhabitants with a higher purchasing power. On the other hand, precarious housing, which lacks one or more basic services for daily life, is segregated by socioeconomic level, expressing this contrast of social realities.
This disparity in housing quality and accessibility to basic housing services reflects deep socio-economic inequalities that influence the territorial structure and the quality of life of its inhabitants.
Resumen
El presente proyecto investiga el fenómeno de la segregación social y espacial en el ámbito de la vivienda, así como su influencia en la configuración del territorio, identificando sus expresiones físicas que se manifiestan en el entorno urbano. La importancia de explorar la segregación radica en su impacto en la dinámica social y territorial, donde tanto individuos como grupos pueden agruparse y distanciarse o excluirse de otros debido a una variedad de motivos, que incluyen diferencias económicas, culturales, raciales, de lugar de origen o, como en este caso, según la calidad de habitabilidad de la vivienda.
Para su estudio se emplea un proceso metodológico basado en el análisis de patrones de segregación social y espacial, que ayuda a identificar las variables en torno a la vivienda, sus habitantes y la segregación, las cuales son posteriormente examinadas de manera espacial y cuantitativa. Y a través de este análisis, se obtiene información primaria que determinara en un primer acercamiento la presencia, el aumento o la ausencia de la segregación. El análisis reveló que en el territorio estudiado muestra una segregación social emergente, donde los conjuntos habitacionales cerrados están naciendo y proliferando en zonas del área de estudio, aumentando las barreras físicas e impidiendo el contacto social siendo esto una segregación de los habitantes de un mayor poder adquisitivo. Por su contraparte las viviendas precarias las cuales carecen de uno o varios servicios básicos para la vida diaria son segregadas por su nivel socioeconómico, expresando este contraste de realidades sociales. Esta disparidad en la calidad habitacional y accesibilidad a servicios básicos de la vivienda, reflejan desigualdades socioeconómicas profundas que influyen en la estructura territorial y en la calidad de vida de sus habitantes.
