Valores hematológicos y bioquímicos y su asociación con el estado nutricional en escolares urbanos de Cuenca, 2012

| dc.description | Objetivo: determinar los valores hematológicos y bioquímicos, y su asociación con el estado nutricional, según edad y sexo, en escolares urbanos de Cuenca. Año lectivo 2012. Metodología: estudio analítico de corte transversal, muestra aleatoria por conglomerados de 585 escolares de 5-12 años (314 niños/271 niñas), en escuelas urbanas, periodo académico 2012-2013. Previo a su inclusión, representantes de los escolares firmaron consentimiento informado, luego fueron encuestados. Se realizaron análisis hematológicos y bioquímicos; se determinó el estado nutricional usando curvas de crecimiento para niños y adolescentes (z-score), IMC por edad y sexo, recomendados por la OMS. Se comparó los valores de laboratorio con el estado nutricional. Resultados: promedio de edad fue 8.87 (DS 1.9); promedio de valores hematológicos de escolares en general, fue: GR=4.82 x 106/ml (DS 0.31); GB=7,15 x 103/ml (DS 1.86); Hb=13.66g/dL (DS 1.34); Hto=40.59% (DS 3.92); VCM=83.64fl (DS 4.03); HCM=38.31pg (DS 1.27). Promedio de los valores bioquímicos: proteína sérica total=6.92g/dL (DS 1.04), albúmina sérica=4.37g/dL (DS 0.7), Hierro sérico = 87.40µg/dL (DS 35.31) Se presentó malnutrición en 19,3% de escolares (desnutrición 1,2%, sobrepeso 12.8% y obesidad 5,3%); existe asociación estadísticamente significativa con los glóbulos rojos y la albúmina. Así mismo comparando las medias por medio de la t-student se encontró diferencias estadísticamente significativas con los valores del hierro sérico, y hematológicos con glóbulos rojos, glóbulos blancos, hematocrito, volumen corpuscular medio. Conclusiones: existe alta prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad en población escolar, similar a la reportada en otros estudios y se encontró asociación entre estado nutricional y, valores hematológicos y bioquímicos. | dc.description.abstract | Objective: determine hematological and biochemical values, its relationship to the nutritional status, by age and sex, in schoolchildren in urban of Cuenca city, academic year 2012. Methodology: Analytical Cross-sectional study, 585 students from 5-12 years of age, urban schools Cuenca - Ecuador, academic year 2012-2013. Sample obtained by conglomerates, stratified and randomized using student lists. Responsible students, signed, prior to their inclusion, informed consent and validated instrument respondents. Hematological analyzes were performed and biochemical. Nutritional status was determined using the World Health Organization parameters adjusted by age and sex. Also we compared the laboratory values with the nutritional status. Results: Mean age was 8.87 (SD 1.9), hematological mean values in the students was: RBC= 4.82 x 106/ml (DS 0.31) WBC=7.15 x 103/ml (DS 1.86) Hb= 13.66 g/dL (SD 1.34), Ht= 40.59% (SD 3.92), MCV= 83.64fl (DS 4.03) MCH= 38.31pg (SD 1.27). Mean biochemical values: total serum protein = 6.92g/dL (SD 1.04), serum albumin= 4.37g/dL (DS 0.7), serum iron= 87.40μg/dL (SD 35.31) 19.3% of students showed malnutrition (undernourishment 1.2%, 12.8% overweight and 5.3% obese). There was statistical significant association with the red blood cell and the albumin. Also there was statistical significant differences’ using the t-student with the red blood cell, white blood cell, MCV and hematocrit and iron. Conclusions: there is a high prevalence of overweight and obesity in the scholarship population comparable to the other studies and there was found association between the nutritional status and the hematological and biochemical values.
