Abstract
The population growth of Gualaceo has caused the city to sprawl. This urban sprawl has
compromised the old public facilities located in the core of the city, causing a need for new
ones to be constructed in peripheral areas. One of such facilities is the bus transit station. This
transit station will stop to operate at the current site and will move to newer updated facilities
for benefit of the population. This move can cause the current place to deteriorate and
become blighted and in a state of disuse hence, ending the useful life of the facilities at this site.
For this reason, this study presents the preliminary project of urban redevelopment
for this place. This planning approach of a new space gives it useful life thinking in a
complementary project with its surroundings.
Through bibliographic research, site data collection, and a search for references, we
propose a preliminary project consisting of different actions: The first action is the creation
of a new public space consisting of a tourist pavilion. The second is the architectural
improvement of the existing sports facility called the Raúl Baca Carbo Coliseum. And the third
one is the development of plazas, small urban corridors, and green areas to function as links
between the banks of the Santa Bárbara River along the new redevelopment and the city.
Resumen
El crecimiento de la población de Gualaceo ha provocado que la ciudad se expanda,
esto ha comprometido a los equipamientos antiguos localizados en el centro de la
ciudad provocando la necesidad de nuevos equipamientos ubicados en zonas periféricas.
Uno de ellos el terminal terrestre, este dejará de funcionar en el actual predio y se trasladará
a sus nuevas instalaciones para beneficio de la población. Esto produce que este lugar
quede en estado de desuso, la vida útil del equipamiento en este sitio terminará.
Por ello este trabajo presenta el anteproyecto de renovación urbana en este lugar, el
planteamiento de un nuevo espacio que de vida útil a este lugar pensando en un proyecto
en conjunto con el coliseo Raúl Baca Carbo y el Río Santa Bárbara.
A través de investigaciones bibliográficas, levantamiento de información en el lugar,
y búsqueda de referentes, planteamos un anteproyecto que consta de diferentes
acciones: la primera es la creación de nuevo espacio público, un pabellón turístico. El
segundo, el tratamiento de las fachadas del equipamiento deportivo existente, el coliseo
Raúl Baca Carbo y el tercero el desarrollo de plazas, conectores urbanos y áreas verdes
para vincular las riveras del Río Santa Bárbara con el proyecto y la ciudad.
