ESTADO COGNITIVO Y GRADO DE DEPENDENCIA EN ADULTOS MAYORES DEL CENTRO DE DESARROLLO COMUNITARIO, BIBLIÁN 2024-2025

Abstract
The increase in life expectancy of human beings, tends to the constant need to adequately identify the progress of functional abilities, such as cognitive impairment and the degree of dependence, problems of older adults that are caused by alterations in physical, emotional or social health, This situation merits timely intervention to promote independence and reduce neurological deterioration, therefore, it is important to apply the comprehensive geriatric mental assessment and basic activities of daily living, so that this knowledge contributes to improve the state of health and to manage preventive measures with the approach of nursing care. As a result of this, the present research aims to determine the cognitive status and degree of dependence in older adults of the Community Development Center, Biblián, 2024- 2025. For which the study was based on the quantitative design of cross-sectional descriptive type and the sample was about 360 older adults enrolled in the Community Development Center of Biblián, as an instrument of data collection was used the Barthel Index scale and the Minimental test (MMSE). The results obtained reveal that the population analyzed are mostly women between 75 and 89 years of age, showing high levels of cognitive impairment (74.2% mild to moderate) and functional dependence (94.2%). There is a predominance of lower-middle socioeconomic strata and low levels of functional dependence (94.2%).
Resumen
El aumento de la esperanza de vida de los seres humanos, tiende a la necesidad constante de identificar adecuadamente el progreso de las capacidades funcionales, como el deterioro cognitivo y el grado de dependencia, problemas de los adultos mayores que están ocasionados por alteraciones de salud física, emocional o social, situación que amerita la intervención oportuna para promover la independencia y disminuir el deterioro neurológico, por ello, es importante la aplicación de la valoración geriátrica integral mental y de las actividades básicas de la vida diaria, de tal manera que este conocimiento contribuya a mejorar el estado de salud y a gestionar medidas preventivas con el enfoque del cuidado enfermero. A raíz de esto la presente investigación tiene por objetivo determinar el estado cognitivo y el grado de dependencia en adultos mayores del Centro de Desarrollo Comunitario, Biblián, 2024-2025. Para lo cual el estudio se basó en el diseño cuantitativo de tipo descriptivo transversal y la muestra fue de alrededor 360 adultos mayores inscritos en el centro de Desarrollo Comunitario de Biblián, como instrumento de recolección de datos se utilizó la escala de Índice de Barthel y la prueba Minimental (MMSE). Los resultados obtenidos revelan que la población analizada son mayoritariamente mujeres de 75 a 89 años, muestra altos niveles de deterioro cognitivo (74.2% leve a moderado) y dependencia funcional (94.2%). Predominan estratos socioeconómicos medios-bajos y bajos niveles educativos.
