Hemingway was one of the most recognized figures in the American culture both as a writer and as a public figure. He started his career as a reporter for the Kansas City Star. During his career as a writer he wrote fiction and poetry, always basing his writing on his experiences. He met important writers on his trips. He won the Nobel Prize with his novel The Old Man and the Sea in 1953. He participated in World War I as an ambulance driver volunteer for the American Red Cross in Italy. In World War II he created the Crook Factory for a spy network and got information about Nazi sympathizers. About his personal life, he married four times, having three sons, but he had a lot of affairs. He loved outdoor life: fishing, hunting, bullfighting, etc. His final years were full of illnesses both physical and emotional. Finally, he killed himself in July of 1961es_ES
