Estrategias de afrontamiento al estrés de pacientes en hemodiálisis del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga. Cuenca 2016

Abstract

Introduction: the diagnosis of kidney disease is a stressful event that negatively impacts individual performance. Stress is a growing problem worldwide that affects the quality of life of millions of people and make it difficult to lead a completely normal life. Objective: determine stress coping strategies in hemodialysis patients of Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga. Cuenca 2016. Methodology: study observational, descriptive and cross-sectional. The study population consisted of all patients who came the Hospital hemodialysis center José Carrasco Arteaga, with an approximate number of 60 patients. The patient signed informed consent to collect the information; an interview was applied to explore the sociodemographic conditions; finally, the survey “Socioeconomic Stratification of INEC” and “Stress Coping Questionnaire” was used. Data analysis was performed in a program called SPSS version 15 and the frequency tables and percentages. Results: of the 60 patients who participated in the study showed that the Positive Reevaluation strategy was the most used with a score of 17.3, while the Open Emotional Expression strategy was the least used with a score of 10.0. Conclusions: in the present study it was demonstrated that the strategy focused on the problem: Positive Reevaluation was the way of coping with the stress most used by the sample, also obtained a higher score in the masculine sex, whereas in the female sex was the Search for Social Support strategy
