Abstract

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity in our country and worldwide, being one of the most relevant problems in public health, is a silent enemy in its beginnings, clinically presents symptoms when the disease has advanced enough, affecting major organs such as the brain, heart, kidneys and retina. This disease is a major risk factor that leads to the onset of pathologies such as acute myocardial infarction, cerebral and encephalic accidents, chronic renal failure, diabetes and rhinopathies, which can lead to disability or premature death. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) 2013 states that Arterial Hypertension is the second cause of death in our country. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To identify factors predisposing to hypertension in adults aged 40 to 65 years who attend the San Fernando Health Center. METHODS: A quantitative, descriptive and observational study was carried out with a finite universe of 150 adults between 40 and 65 years of age. Once the information was collected, the data was entered into the SPSS 23 program for respective tabulation and relevant analysis, which are represented in statistical tables. RESULTS: It was determined that 67% of the respondents belong to the female sex and 33% to the male, the most relevant age is 40 to 49 years old with 53%, 46% are overweight, 66% are consumers of salt, 69% of adults do not engage in physical activity and 31% do so
