Abstract
The Phillips curve (CP) proposes an inverse relationship between inflation and
unemployment, in this context for Ecuador there is some uncertainty about the fulfillment
of this relationship. An analysis is presented covering a period of 50 years from 1970 to
2020. In order to verify the existence of this relationship and the possible causes of a
breach in the theory. Exports, imports and PIB variation are the variables that support the
study at the time of comparing the structural breakpoints proposed in the time series study.
The main results of the analysis present an irregularity: there are periods of time in which
the theory is fulfilled due to certain macroeconomic conditions of the country, however,
there is also a break in the relationship between the two variables in other periods
Resumen
La curva de Phillips (CP) plantea una relación inversa entre la inflación y desempleo. En
este contexto para el Ecuador existe cierta incertidumbre sobre el cumplimiento de esta
relación. Se presenta un análisis que abarca un periodo de 50 años a partir del año 1970
hasta el 2020. Con la finalidad de comprobar la existencia de dicha relación y las posibles
causas de un incumplimiento en la teoría. Las exportaciones, importaciones y variación
del PIB son las variables que soporten el estudio al momento de comparar los cambios
estructurales planteados en el estudio de las series de tiempo. Los principales resultados
del análisis presentan una irregularidad: existen periodos de tiempo en los que la teoría
se cumple por ciertas condiciones macroeconómicas que presenta el país mientras que
también se da una ruptura de la relación entre las dos variables en otros periodos.
