FACTORES ASOCIADOS AL RETARDO DEL CRECIMIENTO EN NEONATOS EN EL HOSPITAL HUMANITARIO “PABLO JARAMILLO CRESPO”, CUENCA 2023

Abstract

Background: According to the World Health Organization (WHO) defines growth retardation as low height for age, which indicates that the potentially desired linear growth is not achieved, resulting in nutritional and health deficiency, in addition to long-term people tend to have side effects such as reduced cognitive and physical development, together with reduced productive capacity and poor health. Objective: To determine the factors associated with growth retardation in neonates at the "Pablo Jaramillo Crespo" Humanitarian Hospital in the city of Cuenca 2023. Methodology: The present ``quantitative analytical cross-sectional cohort`` study will help us to identify the factors involved in growth retardation in newborns, a review of the clinical history will be carried out, and some of the factors that include within of growth, as well as the growth curves, which indicate the height, weight and size of the newborn during its first four weeks of life, in each of these curves, the x-axis presents the age and the y-axis length or height in centimeters. Age is marked as completed weeks from birth to 3 months of age; as completed months from 3 to 12 months; subsequently as completed years and months. In addition, the Maternal Perinatal Clinical History (Form No. 051) will be reviewed, this is an instrument for obtaining and monitoring the data of the mother and the newborn. Results: The results obtained from this study identify the main factors associated with neonatal growth retardation. Currently, this issue is highly relevant due to circumstances that arise during the gestational period in the mother, such as low economic resources and sociodemographic characteristics. Additionally, it is crucial to understand the factors predisposing to this type of alteration.
