Necesidades y preocupaciones de los pacientes en etapa terminal que acuden a FASEC, Cuenca 2017

Abstract

Introduction: the oncological patient in terminal stage for his medical condition, in the final phases of his disease presents several needs and requirements that are consistent with their biopsychosocial environment, determine them in time and satisfy them gives a point in favor of their welfare. Objective: to determine the needs and concerns of patients with end-stage cancer who attend the FASEC, Cuenca 2017. Methodology: quantitative observational descriptive study developed at the Foundation for the Service of Patients with Cancer (FASEC), with 50 terminally ill cancer patients who, according to the inclusion criteria, reviewed the medical history and, after receiving informed consent, interviewed through a questionnaire modified that includes the test "Evaluation of the needs of oncological patients in terminal stage" (ENPOET) to capture the needs of patients, a list of concerns and sociodemographic variables (age, sex, marital status, education, type of cancer, religion , residence and occupation), the information was tabulated and processed with descriptive statistics in the SPSS program, version 24. Results: the population had an average age of 61 years, 50% are female, marital status married 52%, and primary education 64%; according to the ENPOET test; the most frequent needs were: "stay and live the most critical moments at home" with 92% in terms of medical needs, "not feeling helpless" with 98% in psychological needs, "knowing that the family is prepared for face his death "with 96% of social needs," not leave the family unprotected economically because of the disease "with 98% in economic needs and" have faith in God or a Supreme Being "with 92% in spiritual needs. The most frequent concerns were of a medical nature: alopecia / hair loss (96%), nausea (96%) and fatigue (90%). Conclusions: the needs of terminal patients are medical, psychological, social, economic and spiritual, as well as medical concerns
