Análisis de los anglicismos empleados por estudiantes del colegio Benigno Malo de la ciudad de Cuenca

Abstract

The present thesis aims to conduct a lexical-semantic analysis in the sociolinguistic context of Anglicisms used by students from Benigno Malo High School in the city of Cuenca. In the current environment, marked by globalization and its impact, there is an increasing influence of English terms, making it relevant to analyze the lexical-semantic characteristics of Anglicisms used by high school youth. The research question guiding this study is: What are the lexical-semantic characteristics of the Anglicisms used by high school students at Benigno Malo High School in a sociocultural context in Cuenca and its region? The methodology used was descriptive and analytical, including surveys and interviews with students to gather information about the Anglicisms they use in their everyday language. Subsequently, a lexical- semantic analysis of the collected terms was conducted, identifying their origin, meaning, and use in the sociocultural context of the youth. The results revealed that the students of Benigno Malo High School employ a wide variety of Anglicisms, mainly related to technological and entertainment terms. It was also observed that many of these terms are used incorrectly or out of context, highlighting the need for greater linguistic education in this field. In conclusion, this sociolinguistic analysis contributes to a better understanding of the use of Anglicisms among youth, by identifying the lexical-semantic characteristics of the most common terms and emphasizing the importance of a more robust linguistic education in this area.
