Abstract
The Historic Center of Cuenca is nationally and internationally recognized for its architectural and cultural richness, due to the presence of a significant number of heritage buildings with balconies that hold aesthetic and social value. In this context, the objective of this study is to develop a reasoned catalog of the balconies on heritage buildings along Simón Bolívar Street, with the aim of improving understanding of their formal characteristics, urban and landscape value, and sociocultural significance.
The methodology of this study consists of a qualitative approach and a combination of descriptive, documentary, and field research designs. The research tools included a preliminary inventory, a literature review, semi-structured interviews with the direct users of the properties, and documentation through photographs, sketches, and diagrams. As a result, the study aims to produce a technical and structured catalog that
contributes to the heritage management of the balconies on Simón Bolívar Street, bounded by Coronel Talbót Street to the west and Manuel Vega Street to the east, which is considered the study area. In this regard, the annotated catalog goes beyond a formal description by proposing a comprehensive analysis that integrates the architectural, urban, and sociocultural values of these heritage balconies.
Resumen
El Centro Histórico de Cuenca, cuenta con reconocimiento nacional e internacional de su riqueza arquitectónica y cultural, debido a que existe un grupo significativo de edificaciones patrimoniales con balcones que albergan un valor estético y social. En dicho contexto, el presente estudio tiene como objetivo desarrollar un catálogo razonado de los balcones de edificaciones patrimoniales de la calle Simón Bolívar, con la finalidad de mejorar la comprensión de sus características formales, el valor urbano-paisajístico y el vínculo sociocultural. La metodología de este estudio consiste en un enfoque cualitativo y la combinación de los diseños descriptivo, documental y de campo, como herramientas de investigación se consideró un inventario preliminar, una revisión bibliográfica, la aplicación de entrevistas semiestructuradas a los usuarios directos de los inmuebles y una documentación a través de fotografías, croquis y esquemas. Como resultado, se busca alcanzar la construcción de un catálogo técnico y estructurado que contribuya con la gestión patrimonial de los balcones de la calle Simón Bolívar, con límite entre las calles Coronel Talbót al oeste y Manuel Vega al este considerada como área de estudio. En este sentido, el catálogo razonado va más allá de la descripción formal, al proponer una lectura integral que articula valores arquitectónicos, urbanos y socioculturales de los balcones patrimoniales.
