Metodología para la definición de niveles de segregación residencial por exclusión en movilidad en el área rural del cantón Cuenca

Abstract

In the framework of the research project entitled "Mobility indicators as a tool for the definition of territories with residential segregation and spatial inequality in the Cuenca canton", developed by the CITMOV research group of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Cuenca, preliminary results indicate that, in the geographical environment of Latin America, there are no in-depth studies linking residential segregation and social inequality to the field of daily mobility. Let alone consider segregation in rural areas based on urban dependency as a relevant factor. For the case of interest study, the territorial model of the city of Cuenca has been revised in the "Development and Territorial Planning Plans" (PDOT Cuenca, 2015), which shows that there is a non-integrated system and that unplanned growth goes beyond providing basic services. The technical capacity of attention to the urban area and the observation of the surroundings are disconnected, which indicates that there are problems of spatial, social and economic isolation. Under this mechanism of mobility, the inequality of social space has existed for a long time and requires the daily use of private cars. Under these premises, a project was developed by the CITMOV research team of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanization of the University called "Indicators of mobility, a tool to define the residential segregation and the spatially unequal territory of the inhabitants of Cuenca", in which the preliminary results indicate that, in the geographical environment of Latin America, there is no in-depth analysis linking the segregation of residents and social spatial inequality with areas of mobility, even in rural areas, and also considering rural-urban dependency as a relevant factor. For this reason, this work of qualification seeks to contribute to the research of the project carried out by the CITMOV group, through a methodology for the definition of levels of residential segregation by exclusion in mobility, emphasizing the rural sectors of the canton, where this phenomenon manifests itself with notoriety
