Abstract
The actual study it’s regarding an approach of the iconographic analysis of the symbols found in the religious paintings of Zaruma. We will work with an analysis of the pre-iconographic, iconographic and iconological levels proposed by Panofsky in four of the religious paintings located in the Main Church of Zaruma. The main goal of this proposal (“project”) is to generate an analysis line that allows to identify the symbolic elements and iconographic representations of the selected paintings, to understand their relationship with the Zaruma culture and with the context of religious art in general. Therefore, these relationships will be established through the connection with stories from the Bible and their representations in art, to identify concepts and main (principal)
ideas of this artistic representation and how they have become the symbols of the Christian culture.
Resumen
El presente estudio propone un acercamiento al análisis iconográfico de las simbologías presentes en las pinturas religiosas de Zaruma. Se trabajará con un análisis de los niveles pre-iconográfico, iconográfico e iconológico propuesto por Panofsky en cuatro pinturas religiosas ubicadas en la Iglesia Matriz de Zaruma (El Oro, Ecuador). El objetivo de esta investigación es generar una línea de análisis que permita identificar los elementos simbólicos y representaciones iconográficas de las pinturas seleccionadas, para comprender la relación de estas con la cultura de Zaruma y con el contexto del arte religioso en general. Estas relaciones se establecerán a través de la conexión con los relatos bíblicos y sus representaciones en el arte, para identificar
conceptos e ideas claves de este tipo de representaciones artísticas y cómo estas se han convertido en símbolos de la cultura cristiana.
