Frecuencia del síndrome del impostor en internos rotativos de medicina de la Universidad de Cuenca, cohorte septiembre 2022-agosto 2023. Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso

Abstract

Background: The impostor syndrome is defined as the lack of recognition of professional success. In recent years, it has gained greater interest due to its impact on the mental health of those who suffer from it. Objective: To determine the frequency of impostor syndrome in rotating interns of medicine at the University of Cuenca, cohort September 2022–August 2023, at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. Methodology: A quantitative, observational, and cross-sectional study, and quantitative study was carried out, working with a population of 73 rotating medical interns of the University of Cuenca, cohort September 2022–August 2023, who worked at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital; the evaluation of the impostor syndrome was done by applying the "Clance" scale. For the statistical analysis of the variables, Microsoft Excel and SPSS were used, which facilitated the organization, tabulation of data, analysis of variables, frequency, and percentages. Results: 73 medical interns at the University of Cuenca were surveyed; 67.12% were women, and the average age was 24.97 years. The evaluation of the "Clance" scale showed that 41.10% and 30 people, respectively, present impostor syndrome, and of them, 12 out of 24 are men, which allows for the conclusion that the syndrome affects this gender more frequently. Conclusions: Four out of 10 medical interns present impostor syndrome, and more frequently, the syndrome affects men.
