Evaluación de los cambios de tejidos blandos en pacientes clase II tratados con aparatología Advansync y Herbst. Prueba clínica aleatorizada controlada

Abstract

Objective: Compare the changes in the soft tissue profile of Class II patients treated with the Herbst and the Advansync devices. Materials and methods: The present study is a randomized controlled clinical trial. Thirty patients were selected between ages 11 to 17 years old and the sample was randomized obtaining two study groups. The fixed functional appliances were installed in class I dental relation and their activation was performed every three months, with a total treatment time of 9 months. The cephalometric tracings were made using Dolphin Digital Imaging and Management Solutions software version 11.3. Results: Chi square test was used for qualitative data and Shapiro Wilk test, Mann Whitney U test, Student T test and Wilcoxon test for quantitative data. Similar changes were obtained in the two therapies when evaluating the variables qualitatively; however, the Herbst device showed that it generates more favorable conditions in percentage terms. The intergroup quantitative analysis showed no statistically significant differences. The intragroup evaluation showed significant changes for the variables Gl-Sn/Sn-Pg ', Ls-Pg'/N'-Pg ', Ls/Sn-Pg', Li/Sn-Pg ', Si/Li-Pg', Sn-Gn'-C (p <0.05) for the Herbst group and Li/Sn-Pg 'for the Advansync group (p <0.05). Conclusions: Both devices showed favorable changes in the improvement of the soft tissue profile; however the Herbst device generated a higher percentage of desired effects.
