Abstract
BACKGROUND
Child development is a set of conditions that influence the acquisition of skills and behaviours
that allow relating and interacting with the environment, hence the importance of determining
the degree of dependence on functional skills. Reason why, in this research, the PEDI-CAT
Inventory was used to evaluate the children of CEDIUC, in order to detect deficiencies in their
development.
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the functional skills in children of the Child Development Center of the University
of Cuenca.
METHODOLOGY
The study was a prospective quantitative descriptive research project, carried out at the Child
Development Center of the University of Cuenca, the “PEDI-CAT” inventory was applied to
a sample of 50 children. For data analysis and tabulation, the IBM SPSS program, version 23.0,
Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office 2019 were used.
RESULTS
In the present study, formed by a sample of 50 children from CEDIUC, where the age range of
4 to 6 years old belongs to the highest percentage with 44%. In reference to the functional
domains, the following results were obtained: in the area of daily activities, 36% of the
population presented high alertness; in the area of mobility, 32% did not present dependence;
in the area of social/cognitive, 42% presented high alertness; in the area of responsibility, 56%
of the population did not present dependence; in the area of mobility, 32% did not present

Resumen
ANTECEDENTES
El desarrollo infantil es un conjunto de condiciones que influyen en la adquisición de
habilidades y conductas que permiten relacionarse e interactuar con el ambiente, de allí la
importancia de determinar el grado de dependencia de las habilidades funcionales. Motivo por
el cual, en esta investigación se utilizó el Inventario PEDI-CAT para evaluar a los niños y niñas
de CEDIUC, con la finalidad de detectar las falencias en su desarrollo.
OBJETIVO
Evaluar las habilidades funcionales en niños y niñas del Centro de Desarrollo Infantil de la
Universidad de Cuenca.
METODOLOGÍA
Estudio de tipo cuantitativo descriptivo prospectivo, se llevó a cabo en el Centro de Desarrollo
Infantil de la Universidad de Cuenca, se aplicó el inventario “PEDI-CAT” a una muestra de 50
niños y niñas; para el análisis y tabulación de datos se empleó el programa IBM SPSS, versión
23.0, Microsoft Excel y Microsoft Office 2019.
RESULTADOS
En el presente estudio, formado por una muestra de 50 niños y niñas del CEDIUC, donde el
rango de edad de 4 a 6 años pertenece al mayor porcentaje con el 44%. En referencia a los
dominios funcionales se obtuvo los siguientes resultados: en el área de actividades diarias, el
36% de la población presenta alerta alta; en el área de movilidad, el 32% no presenta
dependencia; en el área de social/cognitivo, el 42% presenta alerta alta; en el área de
responsabilidad, el 56% de la población sin dependencia.
