Prevalencia y factores asociados de infecciones urinarias en diabéticos hospitalizados en el área de clínica del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, 2015-2016

Abstract

Background: Infectious diseases such as urinary tract infection (UTI) are higher in patients with diabetes mellitus, therefore the metabolic alteration that underlies the immune response, that condition an increased risk of morbidity and complications on them. Objective: Determine the prevalence and associated factors of urinary tract infections in diabetic patients hospitalized in the clinic area of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital during the years 2015 and 2016. Methodology: A cross-sectional analytical retrospective study was permorfed in diabetic patients admitted to the clinic department with a primary or secondary diagnosis of UTI, or its classifications. The data were collected in a form prepared for this purpose and the analysis was performed in the SPSS program. Results: Of a total of 262 diabetic patients, the prevalence of UTI was 27.9%, with a total of 73 cases. The majority of the population affected by UTI were female gender (38.1%, p = 0.00), the non-stable civil relationship (38,4%, p = 0.008), and urinary catheterization (76.7%, p = 0.00), all this variables were statistically significant. The use of the urinary catheter was the only variable that was presented as risk (RR = 3.5). Conclusions: The prevalence of UTI is high in diabetic patients. The variables of importance were female gender, non-stable civil relationship and urinary catheterization, which had significance. Urinary catheterization is an associated factor for diabetic patients to acquire UTI
