Impacto del tratamiento quimioterapéutico en pacientes que asisten a la unidad oncológica del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca 2013

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to identify the impact of chemotherapy treatment in patients attending the Oncology Unit of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital Cuenca, 2013. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive study using a quantitative-qualitative methodology, the universe consisted of 230 patients and the sample is made up of 70 members who attended the Oncology Unit during the period May to July 2013. As the interview technique was used and directs observation as a form and validated instrument designed by the authors. The data were processed and analyzed using Microsoft Word, Excel and SPSS, the same that are presented in form of graphs and tabs 2x2. Results: Of the 70 patients who received chemotherapy, 62.9% are female, 31.4% of them are aged between 46-65 years, 52.9% of users were married: among the common side effects of treatment are: dry mouth, constipation, poor appetite, tiredness, weakness, and alopecia latter being the more remarkable that affects the patient's emotional state due to the change in body image, which triggers feelings of worry with 42.9%, 40% sadness and fear with 27.1%. The cost of treatment economy has been little affected by 37.1%, taking into account the support given by the state and 28.6% strongly affected because 80% of patients do not work, while the 7.1% of users are kept working as drivers, merchants, tailors and peddlers. Conclusions: The cancer is an aggressive disease, traumatic and affects the sufferer in all aspects of life, bringing changes in the performance of their individual roles, family and the perception of their body image.
