Violencia intrafamiliar en parroquias urbanas del cantón Cuenca. 2019

Abstract

Background: intrafamily violence is a phenomenon that involves the entire society and has existed since the beginning of civilizations, perpetuating itself in time as a form of control and domination within the power relationship that is exercised within a family. Objective: to determine the characteristics of intrafamily violence in urban parishes of the canton of Cuenca. Materials and methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out. The women members of the family that live in the urban parishes of the canton Cuenca constituted the universe. The sample consisted of 383 women who met the inclusion criteria. For the determination of violence, Jaramillo, J., applied the VIFJ4 test whereas the tool developed by the INEC was used for socio-economic stratification. The data was analyzed using the software SPSS 22 (trial version) and Excel 10. The data are presented in simple and contingency tables. Results: according to the socioeconomic stratification carried out, 12.8% were located in the high stratum, 35.8% in the upper middle, 35.8% in the typical medium, 13.8% in the low medium and 1, 8% on the bass. All the women investigated acknowledged having suffered at some time, a certain form of violence. 63.2% of women have suffered mild global violence, followed by moderate and severe violence with 29.8% and 7% respectively. Conclusions: Gender violence was the most frequent. Women belonging to the upper middle stratum were the most affected by moderate and severe global violence.
