Conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas sobre vacunas en las madresde las comunidades Sigsihuayco y Ángel María Iglesias del Cantón Cañar en el periodo de Mayo a Octubre del 2014

Abstract

Objective: identify knowledge, attitudes and practices that mothers have of vaccines in the communities Sigsihuayco and Angel Maria Iglesias of Cañar canton. Methodology: This is a descriptive study, conducted with the application of a survey assessing knowledge, attitudes and practices (CAP), to mothers of two communities of Cañar canton. We worked with the finite universe of 397 mothers, 150 of the Sigsihuayco community are considered indigenous and the 247 mothers of Angel Maria Iglesias community identifies as mestizo, which corresponds to 100% of the mothers of these communities. The information collected was entered into a database designed for this purpose in the statistical software SPSS for Windows 18.0 where the data are processed, tabulated and the presentation is through tables with their respective descriptive analysis. Results: A close relationship between knowledge, attitudes and practices that mothers have of vaccine in both communities, according to the CAP survey, 99.2% of mothers of Angel Maria Iglesias community and 93.3 % Sigsihuayco community know that is a vaccine. The 75.7% of mothers in the Angel Maria Iglesias community and 85.3% of the Sigsihuayco community have a positive attitude to the vaccine. With respect to practices more than 80% of the mothers of the two communities take correct actions before and after vaccination. Conclusions: The present investigation identified the close relationship between knowledge, attitudes and practices that mothers have of vaccine in the Sigsihuayco and Angel Maria Iglesias communities.
