Gualberto Pérez y su influencia en la arquitectura ecuatoriana de entre siglos (SS. XIX y XX)

Abstract

The history of Ecuador's architecture suffers from a number of gaps, one of these being the monographic work on the life and work of the trained architects who forged it from the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The lack of depth in the training in the approach to the theory of history of the faculties of architecture at the undergraduate level and the lack of pedagogical offer in the postgraduate instances have been important obstacles. The exercise of making the history of architecture is still in the hands of a few scholars who have knowledge of it; that is why the work proposed is intended to make visible the work of Gualberto Pérez (1859- 1929), who became one of the first Ecuadorian architects to be academically trained. This research aims to gather information about the known works and select some in his different facets as an urban planner/cartographer and architect. It will be done mostly from secondary sources, although an attempt will be made to review some periodicals of the time. The information will be archived and organized to conclude with a document that builds a more complete vision of the life and work of Gualberto Pérez and the events that took place at the time (19th and 20th centuries) and how these fueled his public and private work.
