Analyzing the effectiveness of blended-learning in the teaching of english as a foreign language (EFL)

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of blended learning (BL) in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) focusing on two aspects: (1) the effects of on learning English as a foreign language and (2) the resources used in Blended Learning for developing the four English language skills. As exploratory bibliographical research, this study encompasses a selection of sixteen relevant studies on the topic. The purpose of this synthesis was to conduct a comprehensive comparison of the available literature in order to foster a meaningful discussion, gain valuable insights into the subject matter, and understand the topic from multiple perspectives. The results show a positive effect of BL on experimental studies. Furthermore, it was revealed that web-based and flipped classrooms, and web blogs are the most frequently used resources in BL. Finally, this study presents pedagogical implications as well as recommendations for further research.
