Readecuación del Cementerio Parroquial del Gad de Victoria del Portete

Abstract

During the COVID-19 sanitary emergency, spaces for the final destination of corpses remained scarce, since local capacities were quickly overwhelmed by the sudden and significant increase in the number of deaths. The deficient infrastructure caused the collapse of several services and irregularities when receiving the remains of the deceased, and one of the spaces that suffered from shortages was the parish cemetery of Victoria del Portete. The thesis contains the preliminary readjustment project, which through case studies proposes a design to reestablish the existing tombs, as well as the expansion and reorganization of new spaces for the final resting of the deceased of the parish and its surroundings. Through bibliographic research, information gathering in the place, and review of international references, a preliminary project is proposed consisting of different actions: Necro-geography and land use patterns in cemeteries, interpretation of activities or funeral rites in cemeteries, architectural styles according to the social context and economic profile of the community, environmental impact linked to the proximity to residential areas, and finally the management of corpses to minimize the psychological impact of the community.
