Abstract
Biophilia, which is defined as love or affection for living beings, represents the human-nature connection, while architecture is the form of an environment built based on the needs of human beings. This environment being closer to residential architecture, where the well-being of residents can be affected by the lack of biophilic elements in their design. Although some typologies, such as the courtyard house, are based on the idea of integrating nature into the home, various factors hinder its preservation. In the case of the Historic Center of Cuenca, the green areas of the patios in the buildings of this typology have been transformed into modifiable spaces to adapt to contemporary needs, thus altering their original use and deteriorating partially or completely. This situation motivates interest in investigating the repercussions of eliminating vegetation in residences and its effect on the quality of life of residents. Therefore, the main objective is to explore solutions through a diagnostic- descriptive analysis, with the aim of establishing practical guidelines that facilitate the effective integration of biophilia in residential architecture at a general level.
Resumen
La biofila, que se define como amistad o afecto a los seres vivos, representa la conexión ser humano-naturaleza, mientras que la arquitectura es la forma de un entorno construido en base a las necesidades del ser humano. Siendo este entorno más cercano la arquitectura residencial, donde el bienestar de los residentes puede verse afectado por la falta de elementos biofílicos en su diseño. Aunque algunas tipologías, como la casa patio, parten de la idea de integrar la naturaleza en la vivienda, diversos factores obstaculizan su preservación. En el caso del Centro Histórico de Cuenca, las áreas verdes de los patios en las edificaciones de esta tipología han sido transformadas en espacios modificables para adaptarse a las necesidades contemporáneas, alterando así su uso original y deteriorándose parcial o totalmente. Esta situación motiva el interés por investigar las repercusiones de la eliminación de la vegetación en las residencias y su efecto en la calidad de vida de los residentes. Por ende, el objetivo principal es explorar soluciones mediante un análisis diagnóstico-descriptivo, con la finalidad de establecer directrices prácticas que faciliten la integración efectiva de la biofilia en la arquitectura residencial a nivel general.
