Abstract
The Cañaris and their language combine the rigor of the researcher with the didactic and well-worked prose of the teacher and the writer. This way, one hundred years after the publication of Cordero's inaugural work, El Quechua and Cañari (1923), and two hundred years after the feat of Independence, Encalada resumes the study of this language, advances it and presents it in a an orderly and enjoyable way in a text aimed both at the specialized reader as the common user of many of the roots and terms studied. This work also constitutes an invitation to new generations, to be encouraged to investigate the Cañari culture, from the perspective linguistics (in the fields of phytonymy and zoonymy there is much to do), but also from other perspectives such as anthropology, culinary or artistic. All this with the aim of achieving with each contributes a safer and more accurate knowledge of the Cañari culture and, in the as we participate in it, in ourselves.
Resumen
Los cañaris y su lengua combina la rigurosidad del investigador con la prosa didáctica y bien trabajada del docente y el literato. De esta manera, a cien años de la publicación de la obra inaugural de Cordero, El quechua y el cañari (1923), y a doscientos de la gesta de la Independencia, Encalada retoma el estudio de esta lengua, lo adelanta y lo presenta de forma ordenada y amena en un texto dirigido tanto al lector especializado como al usuario común de muchas de las raíces y términos estudiados. Esta obra constituye, asimismo, una invitación a las nuevas generaciones, a que se animen a investigar la cultura cañari, desde la perspectiva lingüística (en los campos de la fitonimia y la zoonimia queda mucho por hacer), pero también desde otras perspectivas como la antropológica, la culinaria o la artística. Todo esto con el objetivo de alcanzar con cada aporte un conocimiento más seguro y certero de la cultura cañari y, en la medida que participamos de ella, de nosotros mismos.
