Valoración del bajo peso, sobrepeso y obesidad de los niños y niñas de la Escuela Fiscal Mixta Xavier Muñoz Chávez de la parroquia Llacao, Cuenca 2010

Abstract

The present titled investigation Valuation of low Weight, Overweight and Obesity in the children of the school “Xavier Muñoz Chávez” of the cantón Cuenca, tried to determine the prevalence of these problems in the students, to take part envelope they, promoting action of monitoring, nutritional advising and nourishing security for a growth and healthful development, rescuing the cultural tradition in relation to the nutritional habits.

This investigation forms part of the project “valuation of the nutritional state of the children of Educaciòn Bàsica of the cantón Cuenca”, impelled by the School of Infirmary of the University of Cuenca, in which students participate, withdrawn, and educational of this school.

The project is organized and directed by the two educational of the School of Infirmary of the University of Cuenca and like people in charge members of this protocol.

Material and Method: One is a study of cross section that will allow to determine the prevalence of the bad nutrition in the /as children of the school “Xavier Muñoz Chávez” of the cantón Cuenca.

The universe this constituted by 50 niños/as registered in September of the 2009-2010 that for being small it was investigated to all the group of children of second to seventh of basic.

Techniques and instruments: The used techniques of investigation were: • The survey that will be applied to the parents of family of children investigated • The technique of measurement in anthropometric control The instruments that were used are: • The tables of Index of Corporal Mass (IMC) • The curves of growth of the NCHS • Form of survey on the socioeconomic condition

The results were process and analyzed by means of Microsoft office and excel, in which was low weight a 22% in children, in children a 30%, normal weight 65% in children, children 58% and it does not exist overweight nor obesity. CONCLUSION: The majority of children of the school Xavier Muñoz Chávez is with a normal weight nevertheless exists prevalence of low weight in some children.
