Efecto del ciclo estral y fases lunares sobre el perfil lipídico en cobayas nulíparas

| dc.description | La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto del ciclo estral y las fases lunares sobre el perfil lipídico en cobayas nulíparas. Se analizaron 80 muestras de sangre de cobayas púberes, provenientes de la granja “Imperio del Cuy”, ubicada en Bulán, Paute, provincia del Azuay, Ecuador. Las muestras se recolectaron de cinco cobayas durante cada fase lunar: luna nueva (LN), cuarto menguante (CM), luna llena (LL) y cuarto creciente (CC), repitiendo el muestreo durante cuatro ciclos lunares consecutivos con diferentes animales de la misma categoría. Previo a la obtención de los 10 mL de sangre mediante punción cardíaca, los animales fueron anestesiados con sevoflurano en una cámara de inducción. Las muestras fueron centrifugadas, y los sueros obtenidos fueron refrigerados y congelados para su posterior análisis. Paralelamente, el ciclo estral fue identificado mediante frotis vaginal, complementado con técnicas citológicas que permitieron la caracterización celular específica. El efecto del ciclo estral y lunar sobre las variables dependientes se analizó mediante un análisis de varianza con modelo lineal general, comparando las medias mediante la prueba de mínimos cuadrados. Los resultados mostraron una tendencia estadística del ciclo estral sobre la concentración de LDLc (p=0,0550) entre las etapas de metaestro y diestro. En cuanto a las fases lunares, se observó una diferencia significativa entre LN con respecto a CM (P= 0,0053), además una tendencia estadística en la concentración de LDLc (p=0,053 y p=0,0587), mientras que en el índice metabólico existió una diferencia estadística (p=0,0227 y p=0,0338) entre las fases LN y CM, y entre LN y CC, respectivamente. Sin embargo, no se hallaron diferencias significativas en el resto de los analitos del perfil lipídico. En conclusión, las etapas del ciclo estral afectaron la concentración de LDLc, e influyeron tanto en la concentración de LDLc como en el índice metabólico. Es importante indicar que las etapas del ciclo estral y las fases del ciclo lunar no mostraron un efecto significativo sobre los demás componentes del perfil lipídico. | |
| dc.description.abstract | The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of the estrous cycle and lunar phases on the lipid profile in nulliparous guinea pigs. A total of 80 blood samples were analyzed from pubescent guinea pigs raised at the “Imperio del Cuy” farm, located in Bulán, Paute, Azuay Province, Ecuador. Samples were collected from five guinea pigs during each lunar phase: new moon (NM), last quarter (LQ), full moon (FM), and first quarter (FQ). Sampling wasrepeated over four consecutive lunar cycles using different animals of the same category. Prior to obtaining 10 mL of blood via cardiac puncture, the animals were anesthetized with sevoflurane in an induction chamber. The samples were centrifuged, and the resulting serum was refrigerated and frozen for later analysis. Simultaneously, the estrous cycle was identified through vaginal smears, complemented by cytological techniques that allowed specific cellular characterization. The effect of the estrous cycle and lunar phases on the dependent variables was analyzed using analysis of variance with a general linear model, and means were compared using the least squares method. The results showed a statistical trend of the estrous cycle on LDLc concentration (p=0.0550) between the metaestrus and diestrous stages. Regarding the moon phases, a significant difference was observed between LN with respect to CM (P= 0.0053), in addition to a statistical trend in LDLc concentration (P=0.053 and P=0.0587), while in the metabolic index there was a statistical difference (P=0.0227 and P=0.0338) between the LN and CM phases, and between LN and CC, respectively. However, no significant differences were found in the rest of the lipid profile analytes. In conclusion, the stages of the estrous cycle affected LDLc concentration, and influenced both LDLc concentration and metabolic index. It is important to indicate that the stages of the estrous cycle and the phases of the lunar cycle did not show a significant effect on the other components of the lipid profile. | |
