Abstract
This research-creation project addresses the issue of religious discrimination against Christian students based on experiences lived at the University of Cuenca and how they have faced it from a position of resilience and faith. The project stems from the discussion between the progressive discourse of inclusion and tolerance and the growing rejection of expressions of Christian faith, which some sectors consider incompatible with modernity. Through a qualitative approach and intentional sampling, testimonies were collected through semi-structured interviews, which were visually translated into a series of portraits drawn with ink on formats created from pages of a Bible. This artistic technique allows for strong chiaroscuro contrasts through stains and hatching, capturing the emotional depth, inner strength, and resilient faith of the students. The project proposes a digital and physical repository, composed of testimonies, biblical verses, and significant phrases, with the aim of making this problem visible from a critical and artistic perspective. The work does not intend to inspire pity, but rather to confront the viewer with a silenced reality and to exalt a living faith that sustains itself with joy in the face of adversity.
Resumen
La presente investigación-creación aborda la problemática de la discriminación religiosa hacia estudiantes cristianos a partir de experiencias vividas en la Universidad de Cuenca y cómo lo han enfrentado desde una postura de resiliencia y fe. El proyecto parte de la discusión entre el discurso progresista de inclusión y tolerancia y el creciente rechazo hacia expresiones de fe cristiana, consideradas por algunos sectores como incompatibles con la modernidad. A través de un enfoque cualitativo y un muestreo intencionado, se ha recopilado testimonios mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas, los cuales fueron traducidos visualmente en una serie de retratos dibujados con tinta sobre formatos creados a partir de páginas de una biblia. Esta técnica artística permite realizar contrastes fuertes de claroscuro mediante manchas y tramas, de modo que se logre capturar la profundidad emocional, la fortaleza interior y la fe resiliente de los estudiantes. El proyecto propone un repositorio digital y físico, compuesto por testimonios, versículos bíblicos y frases significativas, con el objetivo de visibilizar esta problemática desde una perspectiva crítica y artística. La obra no pretende inspirar lástima, sino confrontar al espectador con una realidad silenciada y exaltar una fe viva que se sostiene con gozo frente a la adversidad.
