TV program recommender using user authentication on middleware ginga
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Crespo Crespo, Jorge Efrain; Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio; Palacio Baus, Kenneth Samuel; Saquicela Galarza, Víctor Hugo; Tello Guerrero, Marco Andres
The system proposed in this article aims to identify and recognize television users with the objective of offering personalized television programming. In this setting, the authentication and recommendation mechanisms used require to collect the necessary information in an implicit manner as much as possible, such that the leisure and entertainment objectives this broadcasting medium brings are not interrupted. The design proposed for the implementation of the interactive application uses an authentication process based on facial recognition and a recommendation algorithm based on contextual information, which is mainly implicitly captured. Experimental obtained results show that the system offers more accurate recommendations when the user exhibits a habitual behavior; e.g. watching TV programs of a same category in a specific channel and schedule.

A Systematic Literature Review on Composition of Microservices through the Use of Semantic Annotations: Solutions and Techniques
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2019) Chavez Zambrano, Kevin Eduardo; Cedillo Orellana, Irene Priscila; Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio; Saquicela Galarza, Víctor Hugo
The aim of semantic web is to provide meaning to data shared by a network, therefore making it readable by humans and computer applications. The objective of this is to give the information and services a well-defined meaning by tagging web content with machine processable descriptions. Within the semantic web there are annotations, which relate data and classes offering a structured data. In addition, an ontology is an essential part of the semantic web, because it provides a vocabulary of terms and includes properties between concepts. There are several proposals over semantic annotations included in primary studies, but it is necessary to condense them in a secondary study, hence this paper presents a systematic literature review about the composition of microservices through the use of semantic annotations. This allows developers to determine which techniques are the most used in the semantic web. In order to perform this secondary study, the Kitchenham's methodology was applied. After its application, 68 articles were firstly obtained, once the inclusion and exclusion criteria was applied, only 39 studies were selected, which include automatic and manual review.

A subject syllabus similarity analysis to address students mobility issue
(International Institute of Informatics and Systemics, IIIS, 2018) Saquicela Galarza, Víctor Hugo; Baculima Cumbe, John Fernando; Orellana, Gerardo; Orellana, Marcos; Piedra, Nelson; Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio; Vanegas Peralta, Pablo Fernando; Saquicela Galarza, Víctor Hugo
Currently, students' mobility in Higher Education has become very common and frequent. Although the transitioning process could be thought to be smooth and quick, students moving from one institution to another must go through rigorous and unfortunately, non-standardized academic validation processes. Usually, most part of the process, including credits recognition and syllabi comparison are manually performed, consuming excessive time and massive human effort. Some of these academic processes however, could be optimized by means of computer technologies, which support data processing and help solving real-life problems usually found in the academic field. In the specific case of Ecuador, we have identified that each Higher Education Institution (HEI) manages customized curricular information management systems which include non-standard syllabi structured documents. The existence of custom made formats at every HEI has originate a large variety of data models. In this work, we propose to address these problems by identifying similarities between different current syllabi of Ecuadorian HEIs, aiming to the optimization, integration and improvement of the academic activities related to the students' mobility processes, such as credits recognition. This proposal relies on the definition of a standard data model, which is used to describe the academic syllabus and that allows the implementation of a computer-based system focused on similarities detection through the use of semantic web technologies and text mining tools. Framework for the integration of digital resources based-on a semantic web approach [Marco de trabajo para la integración de recursos digitales basado en un enfoque de web semántica]
(ASSOCIACAO IBERICA DE SISTEMAS E TECNOLOGIAS DE INFORMACAO, 2015-01-01) Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio; Saquicela Galarza, Víctor Hugo
From the point of view of access to metadata from distributed repositories, the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) proposed a protocol for the interchange and harvesting of metadata called OAI-PMH. This protocol provide a low degree of interoperability, however, with an approach based on semantic technologies, the interoperability of data can reach a higher level; thus, each digital library can retain their specific local qualities and will not require reassign them in order to standardize the exchange, re-use or harvesting of digital resources. In this paper, the process for the extraction of metadata, generation and publishing linked data in order to improve integration and interoperability between resources stored on Digital Libraries is presented. The proposal facilitates the existence of diversity of methods and standards in the processes of each supplier of digital resources.

Detecting Similar Areas of Knowledge Using Semantic and Data Mining Technologies
(ELSEVIER B.V., 2016-12-09) Sumba, X; Baculima Cumbe, John Fernando; Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio; Saquicela Galarza, Víctor Hugo; Sumba, F; Tello Guerrero, Marco Andrés
Searching for scientific publications online is an essential task for researchers working on a certain topic. However, the extremely large amount of scientific publications found in the web turns the process of finding a publication into a very difficult task whereas, locating peers interested in collaborating on a specific topic or reviewing literature is even more challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel architecture to join multiple bibliographic sources, with the aim of identifying common research areas and potential collaboration networks, through a combination of ontologies, vocabularies, and Linked Data technologies for enriching a base data model. Furthermore, we implement a prototype to provide a centralized repository with bibliographic sources and to find similar knowledge areas using data mining techniques in the domain of Ecuadorian researchers community.

Uso de CBCT y herramientas computacionales odontologicas para la reconstrucción tridimensional de objetos arquelógicos
(2020) Vega Zamora, Oswaldo Francisco; Da Costa Moraes, Cicero André; Pacheco Merchan, Maria Belen; Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio; Cazar Almache, Marcelo Enrique
Cone Beam Computed Tomographs (CBCT) provide high-quality 3D images with submillimeter resolutions, fairly short scantimes (10 to 70 seconds) and radiation doses up to 15 times lower than classic CT systems. Thanks to this, its use in differentareas, both in dentistry and in other areas, has increased significantly. Additionally, the advancement of teleradiology and thecompatibility of the resulting DICOM images with different types of planning, simulation and 3D printing software; have madeit possible to consolidate a powerful tool for the possible early and accurate diagnosis of different deep lesions, anomalies andthe acquisition of deep knowledge about a specific maxillofacial area and its relationship with adjacent structures. However, its resulting measurements with very little error range and the possibility of generating three-dimensional reconstructionsmake it a clear pedagogical instrument of great utility in modern archaeological, technological, forensic, anthropologicaland biomedical investigation techniques. This article provides an overview of CBCT systems, their associated computationaltechnologies, and demonstrates their applicability as tools for the analysis, preservation, reconstruction and reproduction ofarchaeological pieces. As a test, its application in the acquisition of different stereolithographic models of archaeologicalremains of the Pumapungo Museum in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador is described

Proposal of a real time microservice architecture applied to business intelligence for the financial sector
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2022) Muñoz Sanchez, Tatiana Ximena; Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio
This work proposes to i) generate a microservice, which allows the capture of massive transaction information from a relational database, ii) develop the extract, transform and load process (ETL), and iii) store proper and valuable information for decision-making in a non-relational database. The entire process also uses business intelligence mechanisms to convert data into information. Three phases were used for the implementation of this process: the first one, a mechanism within the relational database for change data capture (CDC)- Then, the second one, the design and implementation of a consumer in charge of listening to the messages, generate the transformation process and load it to the non-relational data-base, ensuring fault tolerance, reliability and scalability. Finally, through defined indicators, a control panel was designed, which offers operators and managers the necessary guidelines to generate decisions and measure the achievement of objectives and goals. The entire process, implemented through a visual and intuitive tool, allows converting the data into knowledge, which generates a competitive advantage in companies’ management and operational processes. The proposed integration, results in an architecture design that efficiently manages thousands of records in real-time, offering greater speed, performance, and optimization in searches of large volumes of data for effective decision-making. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Automatic speech-to-text transcription in an ecuadorian radio broadcast context
(SPRINGER VERLAG, 2017-09-19) Sigcha, E; Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio; Medina, J; Saquicela Galarza, Víctor Hugo; Vega, F
A key element to enable the analysis and accessing to radio broadcast content is the development of automatic speech-to-text systems. The building of these systems has been possible given the current available of different speech resources, models, and open source services designed mainly for English language. However, the most of these tools have been migrated to other languages like Spanish for avoiding the creation of these systems from scratch. Despite existing efforts there is no clear evidence of the tools that can be used to convert audio to text in other dialects of Spanish. Also, the most of these systems are trained to consider a specific context, therefore, audio transcription systems personalized for a language and a specific context are needed. This article describes the implementation of an architecture oriented to automatic speech-to-text transcription applied on Ecuadorian radio broadcasters, using available free tools for performing audio segmentation and transcription. The selected tools were evaluated measuring their performance and facilities for adjusting to the defined architecture. At the end, a Web application was developed and its final performance was compared with IBM Watson speech to text service; the results show that the proposed system improves the accuracy and achieves a Word Error Rate around 10%. The obtained results allow to suggest the use of a free tools set in order to train models oriented to specific speech-to-text transcription scenarios.

Mobile teleradiology system suitable for m-health services supporting content and semantic based image retrieval on a grid infrastructure
(INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC., 2016-08-16) La Cruz Puente Alexandra; Espinoza Mejía, Jorge Mauricio; Medina Molina, Ruben; Pérez Rocano, Wilson Rodrigo; Saquicela Galarza, Víctor Hugo; Solano Quinde, Lizandro Damián; Vega, F; Vidal, M.-E
Teleradiology systems tackle the problem of transferring radiological images between medical image workstations for facilitating different medical activities, e.g., diagnosis, treatment and follow up a patient, medical training, or consulting second opinion. Nowadays, m-Health (aka mobile health) is becoming popular because of high quality of mobile displays, although remains a work in progress. In this paper a mobile teleradiology system is reported, which main contribution is the development of a platform: (1) supported by a Grid infrastructure, (2) using biomedical ontologies for adding semantic annotations on medical images, and (3) supporting semantic and content-based image retrieval. Images are located physically in different repositories like; hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers. All these features make the system ubiquitous, portable, and suitable for m-Health services.
