Abstract
The human microbiota is made up of a wide diversity of microorganisms that inhabit our body, playing very important roles in maintaining homeostasis. However, there is more and more evidence that relates the conformational states of the microbiota with the etiology and pathophysiology of different diseases in humans, including cancer. This review details some molecular interactions through which the microbiota affects the pathophysiology of cancer, the role of the virioma and its possible application as a powerful treatment. Finally, understanding the relationship between the microbiota and cancer could give a better understanding of carcinogenesis and the development of new medical strategies and approaches aimed at the prevention, treatment and diagnosis of this disease in a more precise way.

La microbiota humana está conformada por una amplia diversidad de microorganismos que habitan nuestro cuerpo, desempeñando roles muy importantes en el mantenimiento de la homeostasis. Sin embargo,
cada vez existe más evidencia que relaciona estados conformacionales de la microbiota con la etiología y fisiopatología de distintas enfermedades en el ser humano entre ellas el cáncer. En esta revisión se detallan algunas interacciones moleculares a través de las cuales la microbiota incide en la fisiopatología del cáncer, el papel del virioma y su posible aplicación como un potente tratamiento. Finalmente, entender la relación entre la microbiota y el cáncer, permitirá tanto una mejor comprensión de la carcinogénesis como el desarrollo de nuevas estrategias médicas y enfoques dirigidos a la prevención, tratamiento y diagnóstico de esta enfermedad de manera mucho más precisa.
