La carrera de Economía inicia sus actividades en 1960, al crearse la Escuela de Ciencias Económicas anexa a la Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Sociales, hasta que en 1967 obtiene su propia categorización de facultad. Conformada por las carreras de: Administración de Empresas, Contabilidad y Auditoría, Economía, Ingeniería de Empresas, Marketing y Sociología; la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Administrativas cuenta con una misión investigadora de especialización profesional y servicio universitario. Su gestión se centra en la formación de profesionales y especialistas en los niveles de grado y posgrado, el desarrollo científico y tecnológico, así como, el análisis crítico y propositivo, orientados a resolver los problemas nacionales y regionales, en las carreras y áreas de su competencia. El contar con Certificación de Acreditación Internacional ACBSP con un alto porcentaje de docentes e investigadores con PhD y sus vínculos con instituciones afines, le otorgan reconocimiento y nivel académico de prestigio.
Facultad de Ciencias de la Hospitalidad
La facultad se creó el 8 de enero de 2008, con las carreras de Gastronomía y Servicio de Alimentos y Bebidas; e Ingeniería en Turismo. Para la Facultad de Ciencias de la Hospitalidad una formación técnica adecuada debe combinarse con una formación moderna, basada en valores, a fin de que, permita formar profesionales responsables, con una visión abierta del mundo actual y, sobre todo, emprendedores que no se limiten a trabajar profesionalmente para terceros, sino que promuevan sus propias iniciativas comercialmente exitosas. Actualmente cuenta con las carreras de Gastromomía, Turismo y Hotelería; se preocupa porque sus estudiantes tengan una experiencia formidable, por lo que se han suscrito convenios con universidades extranjeras, lográndose numerosos intercambios estudiantiles. Es importante resaltar que, en la facultad, el contacto con la gente y la comunidad es de suma importancia, pues estamos seguros de que es la única manera de alcanzar un desarrollo sostenible, justo y equitativo.

Publication Empresas turísticas y factores de innovación: evidencias a partir del caso de estudio de Cuenca (Ecuador)(2017) Astudillo Durán, Silvana Vanessa; Prada Trigo, JoseThe paper reports a descriptive analysis of the introduction of innovations: product, process, organization and marketing in micro, small and medium tourism enterprises in the city of Cuenca (Ecuador) in the period 2011 and 2012. A survey was used to 90 companies in the sector with qualitative indicators. The results of the analysis revealed that innovations are more incremental than radical, mainly with product improvements and the introduction of new processes, improved business practices and incorporating mechanisms for promotion within marketing. The article provides an overview of Airbnb's activities in Ecuador, more in particular in 22 cities, respectively the capitals of 22 provinces, using the 16 metrics available on the platform of AirDNA. Factor analysis was applied to reduce the number of variables to three main surrogate variables (lodging typology, prices and rates, market metrics) that characterizes Airbnb and retains the original factor variability. Additionally, based on the occupation frequency of Airbnb's rental places the cluster analysis permitted to group the cities in which Airbnb is active on the basis of the following indicators: amazon destinations, traditions, sun and beach, nature culture and events, and the country's capital. A total of 1507 students participated in an exploratory survey to verify if significant differences among the students of both institutions exist in the desirability, feasibility, and intention to undertake. Results reveal differences in the elements of intentionality between the two samples of students. Additionally, gender only influences the entrepreneurial intention of the students in the private university and family members affect the entrepreneurial intention of the students in the private and public institutions. The purpose of the research was analysis of the motivations and obstacles towards the entrepreneurial intent of university students belonging to respectively a private institution, the Catholic University of Cuenca, and a public higher education institute, the University of Cuenca, both situated in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. A quantitative method utilizing Partial Least Squares based Structural Equation Modeling (PLSSEM) was applied to assess if significant differences exist in the motivation and obstacles of the entrepreneurial intention between the students of both type of higher education institution, respectively a private and public HEI. A total of 400 male and female students participated in the survey. Results revealed that the students of both institutions show that the entrepreneurial intention is not supported by the obstacles. In addition, the motivations are significant only in the public university especially the aspect of putting the ideas into practice. Furthermore, the motivations of the students in the private university are not significantly affected by the entrepreneurial intention. Study results were used to recommend HEIs to improve the quality of the study programs with focus on strengthening the students’ intent to the creation of an enterprise, the training in tools that develop and strengthen the attitude in entrepreneurship, and the development of competences as to mitigate the difficulties of entrepreneurial initiative.Publication Green IT practices in the business sector(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2022) Mory Alvarado, Andrea Vanessa; Serrano López, Ana Lucía; Astudillo Durán, Silvana Vanessa; Cordero Guzmán, Diegohe purpose of this study is to determine the level of application that the company has in terms of green IT practices. In this context, the study begins with a theoretical conceptual review, which serves to identify the different variables involved in green computing and to support the nine research hypotheses. The relationship between the identified constructs (hypothesis) generates a model of structural equations; the operationalization of the variables results in a questionnaire with 60 indicators to determine the situational status of various businesses with regard to green information technologies; the instrument is applied to 47 informants from various organizations in the city of Cuenca in Ecuador. The model is evaluated with the software product Smart PLS; finally, with the results provided from the analysis of the model, it is concluded that “organizational strengths, policies, procedures (FO)” have a positive influence on “applications used (AP)”, “energy efficiency (EE)”, “print management and paper use (IP)” and “treatment and disposal of technological waste (RT)”. On the other hand, it is concluded that “used applications (AP)”, “energy efficiency (EE)” and “organizational strengths, policies, procedures (FO)”, “print management and paper use (IP)” and “treatment and disposal of technological waste (RT)” have no influence on “green IT in the organization (GIT)”
